What's Up With SNC-Lavalin and The Federal Liberals?

In February 2015, SNC Lavalin was charged with bribing Libyan public officials with C$48M and defrauding organizations of an estimated C$130M. If convicted of these crimes, the corporation could have been banned from bidding on government contracts for ten years. In 2016, the company lobbied the newly elected Liberal government to avoid prosecution. In 2018, the Liberal government enacted deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) legislation that allows the company to apply for a stay of criminal proceedings that would allow them to avoid trial and prosecution. Jody Wilson-Raybould, the Attorney General at the time, claims that she perceived the government's intervention as a consistent and sustained effort to interfere with her duties. The Liberal government maintains that this is a misunderstanding, no laws were broken, and that they acted to protect thousands of Canadian jobs. Are Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party conspiring to hide corruption or acting in the best interests of Canadians? What are the facts, myths and open questions in this affair?
